Vigilance Committee

Vigilance Committee

What is Vigilance Committee?

The Vigilance Committee is a local-level protection forum that works continuously to safeguard the rights of women and children, ensure their physical, mental, and personal safety, and prevent violence, rights violations, discrimination, and social exclusion against them.

Vigilance Committees function as an emergency intervention mechanism in situations requiring immediate action for the protection of women and children. The committee can also take up neglected cases and issues by utilizing the legal protections and support systems available to women and children.

 Objectives

  • Protect the rights of women and children and ensure effective intervention against violence, discrimination, injustice, exploitation, deprivation, and denial of rights.
  • Receive complaints involving women and children and provide solutions through emergency interventions and support mechanisms.
  • Forward complaints and issues that cannot be resolved by the Vigilance Committee to the District Vigilance Committee, Women's Commission, legal aid agencies, and other government institutions, and ensure follow-up action.
  • Coordinate government agencies and schemes working for the protection of women and girls.
  • Implement activities that create a social environment free from violence and discrimination against women and children.
  • Utilize community participation and collective initiatives to achieve the objectives.
  • Ensure community monitoring and support for women and child protection activities.
