Panchayat Level Tree Committee

A Panchayat Level Tree Committee has been constituted to protect trees standing on public roads and public places and to prevent accidents that may occur due to uprooted trees, broken branches, or falling trees.

The Tree Committees at the Panchayat level have been formed as per Circular No. 248/RC3/2016/LSGD dated 14.07.2017 issued by the Local Self Government Department. The committee functions at the local level to avoid delays caused by obtaining approval from the District Level Tree Committee for tree removal and to facilitate timely decisions during emergency situations.


 

Committee Structure

  • Panchayat President – Chairman
  • Panchayat Secretary – Convener
  • Village Officer – Member
  • Forest Range Officer / Representative – Member


 

Major Responsibilities

  1. Inspect whether trees and branches in public places pose any danger to the public.
  2. Take necessary action regarding trees that threaten the life and property of the public.
  3. Issue directions to owners for the removal of hazardous trees situated on private property.
  4. If such directions are not complied with, initiate legal proceedings and recover the expenses from the concerned individuals.
  5. Ensure that valuation of trees being removed is carried out through the Forest Department.
  6. Coordinate tree protection activities within the Panchayat area and ensure a safe environment.

The Panchayat Level Tree Committee functions with the objective of ensuring both public safety and environmental protection.
